Each year the active night life in Reykjavik is turned into a wild Rock ‘n’ Roll feast when the Iceland Airwaves festival is kicked off. The event, first held in 1999, has been a great success. This year over 20 international acts will perform including Architecture in Helsinki, Clap your hands say yeah, The Zutons and Junior Senior to name a few. Not to mention all of Iceland’s hottest bands, this year the number of local acts will be closing in at about 100, all playing the local pubs and venues around the city’s central between the 19th and 23rd of October.
All of the gigs and performances are in a walking distance from one another. Now, most Icelanders love there cars and do not like to walk at all (partially explained by the lack of good public transportation). So when I say the venues are in walking distance from one another, I really mean that. The rule of thumb here is usually that if taking a car will take longer then walking .. the walking is justified.
See the Iceland Airwaves site for all the details.
